In a least noticed and publicized development less than 20 hours ago, Facebook toppled Google to become the No. 1 Alexa ranked website globally. Google still maintains the lead in Alexa’s website rankings for the US though.
As far as the “reputation” comparison goes, a total of 7,985,305 websites linked into Facebook.com as compared to 5,095,517 that linked into Google.com, as on September 16, 2012.
Also, the estimated percentage of global internet users who visited facebook.com stood at 43.6% versus 43.1% for google.com.
And of course, average time spent on facebook.com has been much higher than that on google.com for obvious reasons. On September 16, it was 27 minutes 3 seconds for Facebook as compared with 10 minutes 45 seconds.
